Taking Our Cougar Flats II Camping
__At least four times a year we like to go camping as a family and then a couple extra times with family and friends. Some of our trips are to campgrounds close by but at least one is for a week to sometimes three weeks. It has become a yearly ritual. We discuss which campsite we are going to visit next and make plans for our next adventure.
Because there are so many of us when we plan our group camping, we decided a last year to get a family cabin tent for our outings. Most nights it is just our family in our tent, but we almost always end up with a couple extra children a few nights for a ‘sleepover’. After researching many tents we decided on the Cougar Flats II. We weren’t disappointed, as a matter of fact we are quite pleased.
When we got the tent we set it up in the backyard. The color coded poles made pitching the tent fairly easy the first time. We sealed the seams too. Once we got to our campsite, pitching the tent was very easy having run through the set up at home. There is plenty of room for all four of us to bunk down in the back room. (We did move to the front room when the children had their ‘sleepovers’.) The front room was used for stowing gear. We also set up a table in there for eating our meals when the weather turned rainy.

The Cougar Flats II Is Cool
_The ventilation is fantastic. I remember camping in older
tents that felt like an oven at the end of the day. Not the Cougar
Flats. There are two doors on opposite walls in the front room and also a
huge window. The ceiling has ‘skylights’ that were very nice when the
rain stopped and we took the rain fly off. Sleeping under the stars. The
back room also has skylights, a huge window on the back wall and two
side windows that are covered by awnings on the outside of the tent. The
awnings allowed us to leave the windows open even when it was raining.
Below the windows are smaller vents that are floor level and provide
fresh air right in your face for those of us that sleep on an air
mattress.
The extra pockets are a very nice touch. We used them for keys, wallets and phones. The gear hammock that hung from the ceiling was used to stow extra clothing so we could access them easily.
All in all it is a fantastic tent. Looking forward to our next trip!
